OK I am really enjoying my Smartphone – the Motorola Droid. I did not want one (if you had read anything prior to this) but now that I have one I cannot stop playing with it. I found myself yesterday looking for a folding Bluetooth keyboard that would connect to the phone and I would be willing to leave my HP Mini at home.
I have one of those folding keyboards that worked with my Palm IV years ago (back in the day – 2002). It was very nice and I carried it with me everywhere for about 4 years. I used DataViz to work within Word or Excel. It was very cool. I can now put DataViz on my Motorola Droid so why not get one that is Bluetooth connected.
Now for the HP Mini which I have been referring to as a netbook. I am wondering if there is a difference between a netbook and this Mini. One person says that a netbook does not have a hard drive another says it does. One says a netbook can only connect to the Internet, obviously a product with a hard drive can have software installed and do much more.
Now I read at Giga OM that we will have Smartbook’s in 2010. The article, The State of The Smartbook is quite interesting however after reading it I was wondering if we have a new word that someone is attempting to define. I could use my HP Mini (with the Verizon EVDO card built in) as a phone could I not? With Skype or some other software I am sure that this could be resolved.
What I do know is that the next 3 to 5 years should be very interesting with current rate of new technology that we are experiencing. I am excited to see it however I am equally as excited to see the people that are gravitating to the technologies. People 5 years ago that laughed at some of the “new” things are today asking questions about how you do something. “Can you really get email on that thing?” “How to you access Facebook?” (You are even on Facebook?)
I have been fascinated all these years and I am still fascinated the changing technology. For the first time in years I think I will really miss CES. I have not been there for over 15 years but this time I am intrigued.
