Vacationing in Sunny California

We left Ohio to visit, vacation, and learn in Sunny California however the Sun is here but the Warm has gone and I am not sure I will see it return. It is beautiful out here and we are enjoying ourselves greatly, just have to wear a jacket. After visiting with the family I have had the privilege to spend a few days on the Google campus and this is really nice. Everyone is most pleasant and willing to share what is going on, what they think will be going on and they delight in the Cloud - so do I. Those of you (if any) who read this know that I am much a Cloud believer and  user. 

I have to admit the things I am learning about Google Apps are very impressive and I have more to learn. I guess like everything else I will have to "go play" and in that way I can learn a great deal. It is the only way I know. 

Still a kid at heart. At one time I was a Cloud Wizard Apprentice. I used to lie on the beach and create images out of clouds. Now I use them to store data however they do not look like floppy disks to me. 

Facebook, Friendfeed, Twitter – Why?

Here is the scenario; In the next couple of weeks I have been asked to speak to a Chamber of Commerce in the area and explain to it’s members “Why Facebook?”, “Why Titter?” and “What can it do for us?”.

Interesting thought. How low (read “deep”) can you go? Why does anyone want to; 1) be concerned about these “social” channels? 2) How do I maintain the “watch”? 3) How do we (I) respond?”

I am open to thoughts, concerns and suggestions that will help me make this a bit more “down to earth” – it’s where we are.

What Would Google Do?

I know I have been missing in action around here, work is a problem and my mind has been attached to it now for way too long. I also have to admit to reading (listening) to “What Would Google Do?” by Jeff Jarvis (link to blog)  and I find it really great reading. As usual I downloaded an Audible version for my iPod however I may have to buy the paper version (would love a Kindle) so that I can capture the quotes. This is really GREAT reading and I highly recommend it. So many businesses today would benefit from the information in this book if nothing more than for rethinking their business model.

Unfortunately too many small businesses do not know what they are in business for and that is the sad part. They went into business to make money and they didn’t buy a printing press they thought they could scam you out of your money by selling you a “service” and in turn reaping the “big bucks”. It’s not working and it never did. Now their business model is changing and they are lost in quicksand. Can you hear the big sucking sound? Listen real close.

Read / listen to “What Would Google Do?” or better put, “WWGD?”. Go Jeff!!
